Grüß Gott

Greetings blogites,

Mom and I have had a very adventurous 48 hours. We took the train from Rome to Assisi and enjoyed a brief, but jam packed day of st. francis and st. clare. My personal favorite was Claire´s tomb. Our guest house was lovely, Casa Papa Giovanni. Much to mom´s delight, we were the only non-ordainded people in the place. We had dinner there and mom befriended a sister from New Jersey who took her out to a concert afterward.

Today we had a marathon train day, probably one of two for the trip. We started in Assisi, transfered at Bologna, and then again at Innsbruck to arrive at Salzburg. All the trains were relatively on time. Bologna to Innsbruck was incredibly packed, but luckily I booked ahead (remembering my horrible night making the exact opposite trip 8 years ago - for those of you who have heard it, the night I was forced to rip the sleeves off my shirt, ala the Incredible Hulk, I was so warm).

Mom was very pleased to discuss and observe Italian, Austrian and German farming techniques. She was impressed with the tomato and sunflower fields in Italy and noted many similarities with her own family´s farm in Missouri, the man weeding in his speedo, however, was not something she had seen before- sorry no pictures. I worked with mom on taking pictures and she is catching on quick. Here are a couple of her works

Jodi in Assisi, not bad considering how much I had walked and how little I had slept at this point!

Tomorrow we see Salzburg and then the day after it is on to Prague - watch out Pragousblogous!

It seems like the trip is very much agreeing with Mom, and it appears that Jodi is holding up well also. I am so glad that the two of you are having such a great experience. The blog is great. I look forward to reading and seeing your adventure, and I think that it will make it more understandable when you return and we talk about your activities. What day will you actually first get into Prague and meet up with Jessica? Take care. Love ya. Dad

hip hip hoo ray! you are almost here in prague! we can't wait to see you two tomorrow night! the weather has changed drastically from freezing cold to super hot! luckily, this is the week we have no hot water in the hostel, so it all works out for the best. get ready for some walking in the heat and then taking cold showers!
love,
jess and zach

I love the pictures! It looks like this has been a fun adventure. What kind of concert did mom see with the nun from New Jersey. My first thought: Bruce Springstein or Bon Jovi.

I especially liked the picture of the island with a lone cloud... it reminded me of a Far Side cartoon or when Charlie Brown has a bad day.

I hope you are having fun with Jess. Please give her a hug from me. And Jess, give mom and Jodi a hug from me. And give Zach a hug from the bear in the moat surrounding the castle Cesky Krumlov... who, unfortunately, eats cats. I want them to name that bear "Alf".

Got an email that Mom and Jodi had arrived in Prague and were met by the official Bellarmine family welcoming committee. Will talk to you later, but other than taking out the garbage this morning, the highlight of my day so far, is the wedding invite we received from Eric Straatmann. It is beginning to sound serious. Love ya and will talk to you later. Dad

Dear Jodi,
I'm glad my reverse psychology? worked and you are posting regularly. I am still waiting for the matching outfits. Also, I absolutely love your profile picture. You look so academic!

We floated down the Boise River on inner tubes this weekend... the 4 of us started with 4 tubes and ended with 2! Some branches popped 2 of the tubes and we had to share for the last hour of the float. I was mildly hypothermic by the end, but it was fun.

Two weeks til we move back to the midwest!!
